The Biden administration has been intentionally misleading people – insisting that the U.S. economy is robust, but now as his poll numbers sag to historic lows, the president is finally speaking the truth about the economy – sort of.
During recent remarks, Biden acknowledged that the U.S. was struggling while still refusing to accept any blame for the economic crisis despite the fact that polls show a vast majority of Americans hold him accountable.
“Our economy is growing but not without pain,” Biden said though there are no clear signs of growth.
The U.S. economy shrank 1.6% in the first quarter and economists fear the second quarter may have been even worse.
“Liberty is under assault — assault both here and abroad,” he continued. “In recent days, there’s been reason to think that this country is moving backward, that freedom is being reduced, that rights we assumed were protected are no longer. A reminder that we remain in an ongoing battle for the soul of America, as we have for over 200 years.”
The president’s comments come after a recent Associated Press-NORC poll found that strong bipartisan majorities of Americans disapprove of the country’s direction.
“Most Americans, 85%, say the country is headed in the wrong direction,” the report said. “A majority of Republicans have been unhappy with the direction of the country since Biden’s election. Democrats had been positive about how things were going, but now 78% say the country is headed in the wrong direction.”
The report specified that 92% of Republicans say that the country is headed in the wrong direction, and 85% of independents agreed.
A Monmouth University Poll also recently found that Americans believe policies enacted by the Biden administration over the last six months are hurting them — not helping.
The poll found that a majority of American adults (57%) believe that President Joe Biden’s policies have hurt them and worsened inflation, while just 8% believe his policies have helped the inflation crisis. One-third of respondents said they believe his policies have had “no real impact.”
According to the survey, inflation remains a top-of-mind issue for Americans.
“Economic concerns tend to rise to the top of the list of family concerns, as you might expect, but the singular impact of inflation is really hitting home right now. And most Americans are blaming Washington for their current pain,” Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said.
42% of respondents disclosed they are struggling to stay afloat financially, a surge of 18 points over last year. The increase of financially struggling Americans is “fairly [even] across the board when examining key demographic groups, including income, race, and partisanship,” Monmouth explained.
All of this has contributed to a sinking Biden approval rating which has seen him fall into the historically low 30% range.
