2 BILLION Visits A Day

“Watch” This Grow Your Business

As a culture we all love TV. The average American watches four hours of TV a day, that’s nearly 30 hours a week! We’re basically suckers for visual stimulation. So how do you use this to benefit your online business?

You create a video and put it on YouTube.

First off I’d like to clear something up. Creating online videos is no longer technically difficult or expensive. I personally like the flip video cameras. They’re portable, easy to use, and upload videos on to your computer in a flash. Best of all they cost under $200. If you don’t have a flip your webcam, digital camera, or cell phone video recorder will do the trick. Most online video makers use cameras that are 5+ years old and basic editing software that comes standard on any new laptop.

Now that you know that anyone can make a video. I would like to tell you why. YouTube gets two billion hits a day. That’s right I said BILLION. Any marketing channel with that many potential customers can’t be ignored. Where else can you produce an advertisement and reach that many possible customers? Not with direct mail, radio, print, or anything else.

Online videos are a great way to drive traffic to your website. This is done by taking advantage of the boatloads of visitors YouTube gets every day. The best way to do this is to create videos your customers would be searching for and posting it on YouTube. The trick is creating entertaining videos that people enjoy.

Let’s say for example you ran a website that has to do with bass fishing. Maybe you sell fishing equipment, accessories or information about fishing. One video you might create is a review of the most popular bass lures. Someone watching a video about lures is absolutely a potential customer. By doing this you’ll find viewers who are more likely to become customers.

You can easily come up with ideas like this for your own business. One great way to do so is by searching for videos in your niche. See what other people are posting. Especially keep an eye out for ones with thousands of views. Is there something about that video that you can recreate or can you make a similar video?

Create videos that show off your knowledge on the subject. You want people to take away that you are an authority in your field and should be trusted. People are more likely to buy from people they trust.

If you sell products related to hair come up with a video showcasing your skills. Create a video that shows how to do a fishtail or French braid. After people watch your video they will see you know what you are talking about and are more likely to see you as an authority in your field.

The soft-sell is the best technique for YouTube videos. People don’t want to spend their time online watching commercials, they want to be entertained or learn how to do something. A friendly video showcasing your product or your knowledge on the topic is a great way to attract new customers without them feeling like they’ve just been sold something.

A good instructional video doesn’t have to be a Stephen Spielberg production to be effective. It just has to be informative, clear, short and entertaining. The video itself shouldn’t be more than two to three minutes long.

It is important you remember to include your website in your video and user profile. A YouTube with a lot of views won’t help if you don’t tell them where to go. You can use some simple editing software to include the text url for your website in the video. When you upload your video, be sure you pay attention to YouTube’s Insight (YouTube’s version of Google Analytics). Write a clear descriptive title that uses relevant keywords. Include an in-depth description of the video. Be sure to incorporate your Web site address into the first sentence so that it will display even if the user doesn’t click on “view more.”

You should also create your own channel on YouTube. This will help build awareness for your business. When you sign up use your company name as your username. This will ensure your YouTube username will become your “channel” name. Signing up is simple and once you’ve completed the process you’re ready to start marketing.

Continuing to add new videos will ensure new customers frequently find your website. The more videos the better! One of the best things about YouTube is it’s free. So you can host your videos and embed them on your site. Plus someone who just watched a video on a topic could very well be interested in more videos.

There’s a ton more you can learn about YouTube. Though I think it’s best to start with some simple steps. So take what you’ve learned today and practice making videos. Write a short script or practice what you are going to say first. When you’ve got one or two you’re moderately happy with upload them and give it a shot. This may start as a slow trickle of traffic, but as you keep going it will snowball.

Until Next Time…
